Approximately 25% of all Badminton England registered clubs in Middlesex do not play competitively against other clubs. They may be registered for insurance reasons (perhaps required by their venue), or to gain access to Badminton England discounts, or for other reason(s).
Clubs that want to play competitively have a choice of leagues: the Middlesex League covers the whole of the county plus a few venues just outside. Additionally there are local leagues:
• Barnet (currently in limbo)
• Hammersmith, covering West London
• Hillingdon, covering the A40 Western Avenue area
• Hounslow and Staines (H&S)
To join any of these these leagues you should contact the league secretary and take it from there. Hounslow and Staines starts in early July with its AGM and fixtures, Middlesex starts at the end of July, Hammersmith and Hillingdon both start in early September.
All clubs playing in any of the leagues must be registered with Badminton England, and must ensure all of their players are individually registered with Badminton England too. The first activity for a new club wanting to play competitively is to login to the Badminton England website at https://badmintonengland.justgo.com and register their club, then register the players (or ask the players to do it themselves – an individual Badminton England number is a must for all league match players).
Most match formats (Mens 4 or 6, Ladies 4, Mixed 6, and/or various hybrid formats for 4 or 6 players) play on a home and away basis. Each league has its own rules about start and finish times, eligibility, etc. It is recommended that new clubs start in a local league to learn procedures, etc. as these are generally less onerous than those of the Middlesex League.
