Congratulations to Middlesex 1st team, who have regained the Premiership title and are now County Champions after last winning in the 2018.19 season (Middlesex was 12 points in the lead in the 2019.20 and looked certain to win a third title in a row before Covid cancelled the season). Going into the final weekend, Middlesex held a narrow one point lead over the reigning champions Buckinghamshire and a five point lead over an unbeaten Hampshire team. A 9-2 victory over Hertfordshire 1sts and a 7-4 win over Cheshire 1sts on the Saturday meant that Middlesex only needed 4 points from their final match against Hampshire on the Sunday to guarantee the title. In the end, an emphatic 9-2 win over Hampshire left Middlesex a comfortable 9 points clear of Buckinghamshire in 2nd place and 15 points clear of Hampshire in third. Well done to all 14 players who represented the first team over the three weekends. Dinuka Karunaratne, Robert Golding, Angus Pedersen, Vanessa Chien, Freya Patel Redfearn, Niluka Karunaratne, Evelyn Yu, Thilini Hendahewa, Theresa Huang, Victor Liew, Zoe Hallam, Sachin Dias, Anna Kalathil George and Boglarka Ujvari and to team manager Mark McCanney and all others who have supported the county.
The second team finished a very credible third in Division 1 South and only narrowly missed out qualifying for the Division 1 play offs.
The third team finished 7th of 8 in the same division and are relegated to Division 2 for next season, where they will be looking to bounce back strongly.
The fourth and fifth team finished 5th and 6th in Division 3 South East.
The Executive Committee are looking at the number of teams Middlesex enters in the Senior County Championships and there is a proposal to reduce the number of teams, but we will update everyone once a decision has been made.
Thank you to other team managers and the selection committee: Cynthia Law, Ylenia Ficalora, Aayush Christie, Lochani Hartley, Gemma Jarrett, Robert Golding and Sandra Peaston.
